what’s declared evil. As we conclude this article on “Deliver Us from Evil” included are several reference keys,
Hebrew and Greek words which can be used to help further your study on this subject.

Old Testament Examples of Evil

The first mention of evil is found in Genesis 2:9 “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree
that is pleasant to sight and good for food; and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.” Normally the first
mention of key words which are seen throughout the scriptures can be found to have the same root meaning from
their first mention. Evil in Genesis 2:9 is derived from the Hebrew word “Ra” found in key H7451. It means adversity,
affliction, bad, calamity, distress, ill favored, exceedingly grievous, sorrow, wretchedness, misery and naught. This
kind of evil is often connected to choices we make contrary to God’s word and purpose for our lives. We were
designed by God with the power of choice. God knew that man would transgress and fall short of obeying His
words. He provided a plan of redemption which has been fulfilled in Christ. Adam and Eve ate from the tree of
knowledge, a choice which opened them and the entire human race to the adversity, affliction, sorrow and
wretchedness of sin.

from a physical, moral and social aspect, to afflict. This evil is rooted in harsh mistreatment by oppressors who
show no mercy and sometimes will cause the believer to blame God and those whom He sends to lead us. Exodus 5
God sends Moses to Pharaoh charging him to let His people go and Pharaoh, increases harshness towards Gods
people (Exodus 5:22-23). There are certain devils which will increase their wickedness at the thought of you
attempting to break free. Some people have had to deal with this scenario when trying to exit an abusive
relationship. Rest assured however that our God is a deliverer of His people.

mandate for His people producing fear which hinders forward momentum. Evil messengers have wrought much
damage to the Body of Christ and caused our mandate of Kingdom advancement to be limited. Numbers 13:1-3, 17-
20

naughty, this kind of evil leads to lawlessness and disdain for the righteousness of God. The sons of Belial
